Care and Maintenance
Cabinetry
Natural Wood: Whether wood is sealed with polyurethane or is a natural finish, lightly spray a general purpose oil soap cleaner onto a cloth so that it is damp and then wipe cabinetry. Do not excessively wet the wood.
Painted Wood: Wash with warm water mixed with an all-purpose cleaner, white vinegar (one part vinegar to two parts water) or wood cleaner. Do not excessively wet the wood. Rinse with a second cloth and clean water. To remove grease buildup, wipe with a mix of ammonia and water and rinse with clean water.
Laminate: Wipe with an all-purpose cleaner or white vinegar diluted in water (one part vinegar to two parts water); rinse with a soft, clean cloth. Be careful on the edges, so as not to loosen the laminate.
Metal: Wash with an all-purpose cleaner diluted in warm water. Rinse using a second cloth and clean water. Wipe dry. Avoid exposure to water to prevent rusting in seams or cracks.
Countertops & Backsplashes
Clean kitchen counters immediately after food preparation to minimize contaminate areas.
Natural Stone: All marble and granite tops should be sealed prior to or at the time of installation. This involves the sealer impregnating the stone, clogging any pits or pores, and creating a surface that is resistant to alcohol, juices, soft drinks, cosmetics, cleaners, coffee, food and even oil. With time and use the sealer may need to be applied again. This application can easily be done by the homeowner using an impregnating sealer and following the directions on the back of the product. Abrasive cleaners or scrub pads will scratch the surfaces. If a stone surface stains, treat immediately with a paste of baking soda and water; scrub with a soft brush and rinse throughly; repeat until stain lifts.
Wood & Butcher Block: Clean wood countertops with warm water and dish soap, rinse with clean water and thoroughly dry. Butcher block surfaces may be cleaned in a similar manner, however, they also require accessional oiling to preserve the sheen and prevent the wood from drying out. Wipe the wood with a light coat of mineral oil, wiping away any oil that does not soak into the wood. Avoid using linseed or vegetable oil which could spoil.
Tile: Clean tile backsplashes tub and tile cleaner. Rinse with white vinegar and water mix (one part vinegar to two parts water) to prevent soap residue. Scrub stained grout with a toothbrush dipped in a mild solution of chlorine bleach and water. Seal with impregnating sealer.
Laminate & Synthetic: Use warm water mixed with a non-abrasive kitchen cleaner, or a mild bleach solution to keep synthetic/ laminate tops looking their best. Use a soft toothbrush along seams. For a greasy buildup, use white vinegar and water (one part vinegar to two parts water).
Chrome & Brass: Clean with a damp sponge using a tub and tile cleaner, all purpose cleaner or glass cleaner. Rinse and buff with a clean cloth. The faucet will retain its luster longer if you dry the faucet after each use (water deposits form when water evaporates on the brass/ chrome surfaces.
